Indicator 17.4.1: Debt service as a proportion of exports of goods and services

This indicator is being used as an approximation of the United Nations SDG indicator as it is more relevant to the national context.

The national metadata is still being developed in collaboration with the relevant Ministry, Department or Agency. We will continue to work with these institutions over the next few weeks to update this information.

Footnote Please note that the debt service data used in computing this indicator excludes principal payments. In other words, interest payments was used as proxy for the calculation.

Indicator description This indicator measures the proportion of domestic revenue used in servicing debt. Domestic revenue includes tax and non-tax revenues, but excludes grants. Debt servicing involves payment of principal and interest accrued on principal. Debt service data used in computing this indicator excludes principal payments.

Definitions Debt service as a percentage of domestic revenue is the percentage of domestic tax and non-tax revenues, excluding grants for debt services (principal and interest payments). The figures computed for this indicator reflects interest payments only. Data on principal payments was not available.
Calculations Total domestic revenue used in servicing debt (interest payments) divided by total domestic revenue and multiplied by 100.
